| The
"City of Gold". Johannesburg is the largest city
in the world not built on or near a major water source.
That alone makes it a phenomenon onto itself. The majority
of the skyscrapers in the CBD are from the boom of the 70s
and 80s. Three towers stand at over 200 meters and are the
tallest and most grand structures in all of Africa. The
city has promised to rejuvenate its CBD with more
buildings, but the fact still remains that the nightlife,
shopping and the culture is still very much alive. Because
of the geography and topography, the city is also very
"planned" in a grid iron fashion, which gives it
a unique look.
