The world famous
Eiffel tower held the record for the tallest man made
structure in the world from 1889 to 1930. Asides from
that, Paris only has one other structure over 200 meters
tall. Nevertheless, Paris unlike many other historically
great European cities, has a number of "modern"
commercial buildings in an area called La Défense. This
business district is separated from the main tourist
attractions of the city and cannot normally be seen in
skyline shots, since they are normally focused around the Eiffel
Tower. This does not mean Paris doesn't have a skyline, it
does indeed. Currently, many high rise developments are
underway in Paris.
